This kitchen is part of a major house remodelling and renovation managed by Brahma Construction Co. of Miami Beach. The challange for this space was its long and narrow shape. I worked closely with architects of Shulman and Assoc. with refinements and provided structural details from the choice of exotic wood and sophisticated hardware for these cabinets to how to strengthen the island seating area marble that spans several feet. The concept for the extra long island is to suggest a clear water stream ending in a waterfall at each end. In keeping with the fluid theme you will notice the use of horizontal, linear grain (bubinga) on drawers and all the wall cabinets. I recessed LED lights into the bottom of these wall cabinets. The installation of under-counter drawers enables easy access to items inside, even around the sinks and dispose-all. The spring-loaded lift arms of the wall cabinets, as well as on fluted glass display case, are self/soft closing and hold the door open at any position. I am not a professional photographer and I took these "snap shots" as the dozens of other workers hastily prepared the property for the client's move-in. The wood floors are covered up and the stainless steel door fronts I made to fit around the coffee maker and two refrigerators, as well as the baseboard, still have the protective plastic film on them. The wood panels for the two dishwashers are not on yet either. As the project wraps up I can reflect with some satisfaction that I was able to povide better customization in less time for less cost than the kitchen cabinets offered by the Italian import.
